Your dream child at 31st week
www.mydreamchild.com

As you make your way through your third trimester, the biggest thing you will notice will be the amount of weight you and your baby are gaining. Eating a well balanced diet, which includes foods high in fiber to help with constipation, and drinking plenty of liquids such as water or juice is crucial in this final stage. Keeping hydrated can help prevent symptoms such as dry skin, dry eyes, and others.

Development

  • The main development at this stage is in your little one’s lung. The cells lining the air sacs of the lungs secrete that is known as surfactant. This is a lubricant that prevents the tissues of the lungs sticking together. This is a major milestone in your baby’s development, because without surfactant, he will be unable to breath outside the uterus.
  • The ears are fully developed and your baby is listening to everything inside and outside of the womb. She can hear mom’s breathing patterns and heartbeat, she can hear music, and she can hear voices of others.
  • Her toe and fingernails are fully formed and she can even scratch them accidentally in the womb.

Appearance

As far as growth goes, your baby's still on a roll, measuring an impressive 18 inches and weighing in at more than three pounds. Your baby is becoming more aware of stimuli so will be very active, responding to sounds and movements. Since her ‘living conditions’ are now rather cramped, due to her size, for most of the time she will have her chin on her chest, her arms across her chest and her knees curled up. Even though she has less space than earlier, you should still be filling at least 10 movements a day.
