It is also known as the 'white' discharge or 'Shveta Pradar' due to discharge of white fluid from the Vagina. The vaginal flow is foul smelling, viscid (tenacious) and thick that stiffens the linen. This is a serious disease which, if allowed to prolong and not treated, may cause other problems. According to Ayurveda this disease is caused by the imbalance of vata and kapha dosa.

Leucorrhoea in young girls:
In young girls, leucorrhoea may occur during the few years before and after the start of the menstrual flow . It may be due to an irritation of the genital organs caused by various factors such as dirt, soiled under garments, intestinal worms and excessive mental stimulation of sex or masturbation. Some excess secretion is normal when the girl reaches puberty, due to over activity in her sex glands and organs. This usually disappears within a short time.

Treatment:

Ayurvedic treatment emphasizes the use of vaginal douches (uttarbasti or yonidhavana). These douches are intended to treat the uterus, fallopian tubes, and the external vagina. They act as local antibiotics, clear the blockages in the channel pathway, and pacify dosha. The herbs used for douches are Santalum album (chandana), Azadiracta indica (neem),Tinospora cordifolia (guduchi), Saraca indica (ashoka), Terminalia arjuna (Arjuna), etc. Internally,ginger, cinnamon, fenugreek, gooseberry (Emblica officinalis), Terminalia chebula,and Hemidesmus indicus are the popular herbs.
